The main campus of the University of Cincinnati looks like a “ghost town” after officials canelled all face-to-face instruction for the remainder of spring semester.
Classes were originally set to resume on April 13, but UC officials said remote instruction for classes will extend through the end of the semester.
This means students will need an internet connection to avoid the risk of falling behind in their coursework.
Residence and dining halls will close for the remainder of the semester, and students must check out of university housing by the end of the day on March 25. For students who cannot return home or do not have any other housing options, university officials pledge to work with them to find alternative housing solutions.
Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley said March 20 that there are three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the city.
UC Health March 13 reported that four additional patients have tested positive for the coronavirus. The patients were initially seen at UC Health's West Chester Hospital and have been treated and released.
UC Health has added tents outside the emergency departments at two of its Tri-State hospitals. The tents appeared Saturday evening outside the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and West Chester Hospital.
UC Health Director of Media Relations Amanda Nageleisen says the tents, described as “respiratory waiting rooms," are there to protect patients and staff. “These tents are being used as waiting areas for patients with respiratory symptoms who are visiting the ED,” Nageleisen said.
The four patients treated by UC Health are members of a single family residing in West Chester in Butler County.
Health commission investigators are tracking down all of the people who have had any contact with the family.
Butler County Health Commissioner Jenny Bailer said they have located some of these people and put them on quarantine, but she did not provide numbers on how many.
Bailer said officials are also tracking several other cases. Of those separate cases, four came back negative for the coronavirus and two are still pending.
About 30 people who were part of a group that went to a conference in Washington, D.C., may have come in contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus. The group included people from Miami University, and all remain in quarantine. None appear to be sick.
UC Health officials said they've been preparing for the coronavirus for several weeks.
"Our physicians, nurses, caregivers, and staff are continuing to take appropriate precautions to protect all patients and staff in accordance with U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention guidelines," officials with UC Health said in a formal release.

UC Style is the best online magazine in Ohio. I log onto it almost every day to review updates and the best in news and trends in fashion and other topics of interest to people like me. This just isn’t a fashion magazine, it is a style magazine in every sense of the word. Keep up the good work!

Clifton and the University of Cincinnati are like islands of cultural diversity, and UC Style gets this. Sure, you can learn everything you would ever need to know about clothing fashion, but UC Style goes a lot further than that. The magazine defines style as culture, health, news and so much more. Great magazine! Great addition to the UC community.

Clifton is the best place to live in Greater Cincinnati. It is the only place for me. UC Style is like a community news magazine with a worldwide touch, just like Clifton is a local neighborhood with a worldwide culture. I always enjoy reading it and look forward to updates.
